India’s automotive market has been witnessing an all-time high demand for compact (sub-4 metre) and micro SUVs. Buyers are spoiled for choice in the subcompact SUV segment, while in the mini SUV space, we have the Hyundai Exter, Tata Punch, and Maruti Suzuki Fronx. In 2025, three all-new options in both segments will come from OEMs like Skoda, Kia, and Hyundai. Let’s delve into the key details of the upcoming compact SUVs.
Upcoming Compact SUVs
Skoda Kylaq
The Skoda Kylaq compact SUV will have its world premiere on the 6th of November, 2024, with its market launch slated for early 2025. After the Kushaq and Slavia, it will be the third Skoda to utilize the MQB-A0-IN platform. The model will embody Skoda’s ‘Modern Solid’ design language, featuring a familiar grille with vertical slats, split headlamps, and shorter front and rear overhangs compared to the Kushaq. The interior might share similarities with the Kushaq. It could come equipped with features such as an ADAS suite and a 360-degree camera. Under the hood, the Kylaq is likely to feature a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 115bhp and 178Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic transmissions will be available.
Kia Syros
The Kia Syros will be the new sub-4 metre lifestyle SUV from the South Korean automaker in India. Spy images suggest that some of its design elements could be inspired by the K4 sedan. It will feature Kia’s new two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, dual displays, a Bose audio system, a climate control system, ventilated and powered front seats, leatherette upholstery, and more. Initially, the Kia Syros will be offered with a petrol engine only. The carmaker is expected to introduce its electric version by mid-2025.
New-Gen Hyundai Venue
The new-generation Hyundai Venue is also planned for 2025, possibly launching in the first half of the year. It will be the brand’s first model to be produced at Hyundai’s new Talegaon facility, which was acquired from GM (General Motors) last year. The new Venue is expected to enter production very soon. It’s likely to incorporate some design updates inspired by the Alcazar, which recently went on sale in India. The carmaker might also equip it with additional features, while retaining the current engine setup.
