Tata Nexon CNG Launch Next Month – Turbo-Petrol, 2 Gearboxes

The Tata Nexon iCNG, which made its debut in a near-production avatar at this year’s Bharat Mobility Show, is now ready to hit showrooms. According to a media report, the model will go on sale in the coming weeks. While its launch date is yet to be announced, it’s expected to arrive just after the Curvv ICE. Prices for the Tata Curvv petrol and diesel versions will be announced on 2nd September 2024. Interestingly, the Tata Nexon CNG will be the first turbocharged CNG car in the country. It will come with a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, benefiting from Tata’s dual-cylinder CNG technology.

The carmaker’s twin-cylinder iCNG tech promises uncompromised boot space. This setup enables you to drive the car directly in CNG mode, and its single advanced ECU provides seamless shifting between CNG and petrol modes. It also comes with a modular fuel filter, which helps reduce hazardous waste and maintenance costs. Tata’s dual-cylinder CNG setup consists of two gas cylinders (each measuring 30 liters) placed beneath the boot floor.

In case of a gas leak, the iCNG tech allows you to switch from CNG to petrol mode. For additional safety measures, the Tata Nexon CNG will have a micro switch that enables the ignition to be switched off when the fuel lid is opened. The subcompact SUV will be made available with both 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options, similar to the Tiago and Tigor CNG versions.

Once launched, the Tata Nexon CNG will compete directly with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG, which is available in four variants (LXi CNG, VXi CNG, ZXi CNG, and ZXi CNG dual-tone), priced between Rs 9.29 lakh and Rs 12.26 lakh (all ex-showroom).
