This Rs 7 Lakh MG Comet has a VIP No. Worth Rs 1 Crore

We have seen how enthusiastic some people can get about the number of their vehicles.

This MG Comet possesses a VIP number which allegedly costs a jaw-dropping Rs 1 Crore. Note that Comet is the entry-level electric car from the Chinese-owned British carmaker. In recent times, MG has been trying to expand its portfolio in the Indian car market. In fact, it now has two electric cars on sale – ZS EV and Comet. The former is a mid-size electric SUV which also has an ICE counterpart in the form of Creta-rivalling Astor. On the other hand, MG wanted to offer something extremely affordable primarily for city use. Hence, the Comet came about. For now, let us delve into the specifics of this latest instance.

MG Comet with VIP No.

This post comes from autojournal_india on Instagram. The visuals showcase that this MG Comet wears a number plate which reads RNQ 4. As per the information in the description of this video, this registration number costs a whopping Rs 1 Crore. That is even more surprising considering the vehicle just costs Rs 7 lakh. In fact, it is the cheapest electric car in the country. To have a number worth almost 14 times the value of the car is simply absurd. I understand that people love to get VIP numbers on their expensive cars. But to have it on an entry-level car is unheard of.

The MG Comet is a compact electric car which is designed primarily for urban use. It uses MG’s GSEV platform. It comes with a 17.3 kWh IP67-rated lithium-ion battery pack which powers the electric motor to generate a decent 41 hp and 110 Nm of peak power and torque. Users can expect a range of around 230 km on a single charge in the ideal case. Being a tiny car, it has the capacity to house 4 people. With a standard AC charger, you can juice up the batteries in just 7 hours. There are three driving modes to suit different conditions. The prices for the MG Comet range from Rs 6.99 lakh to Rs 9.53 lakh, ex-showroom.

Our View

Well, I have seen influential people wanting to make their vehicles stand out from the crowd for which they end up splurging insane money to get VIP number plates. Common examples include the Ambanis, our beloved Bollywood stars, cricketers, top businessmen and more. However, what is immensely rare is to find a VIP number plate on a budget car. People buy affordable cars to keep their expenses in check. That is why it makes no sense to buy an entry-level car and then spend on a VIP number plate. Finally, I would also like to offer a disclaimer about the genuine price of this number plate. We are not sure if this actually costs Rs 1 Crore. In any case, if there are more updates about this, I will add to this story.
