Indian Maritime University (IMU) signed a couple of agreements today to build a research centre of excellence in Kolkata and to offer fellowships. The university organized an alumni meet on August 5 at the Mumbai Cricket Association Recreation Centre.
A sponsorship of Rs 18 lakh is being established for two Junior Research Fellows (JRF) who will conduct research at IMU. Dr. Malini V Shankar, vice chancellor of IMU, and Sri Amulya Mohapatra, director and vice-chancellor of IMU, as well as director and vice president of Foresight Group, inked the agreement at the ceremony.
A prominent IMU alumnus, Ravi Mehrotra, is planning to donate USD 0.72 million for the construction of the R K Mehrotra Centre of Excellence in Maritime at the university’s Kolkata campus.
“I am excited to support Indian Maritime University in its mission to advance Research and Innovation in the maritime sector,” stated Sri RK Malhotra, group managing director of RK Malhotra Holding Pvt. Ltd (RKMHL).
The press conference was a major milestone for Indian Marine University, as it highlighted our aim to drive research and educational achievements in the marine ecosystem, according to Dr. Malini V. Shankar, vice chancellor.
“We are thrilled and grateful to collaborate with the RKMHL group on the development of the Center of Excellence,” Shankar continues, “and we are looking forward to building a growing network of young researchers through our joint venture with IME.”
