Volkswagen Tayron 7-Seater SUV Revealed – India-Bound

The all-new Volkswagen Tayron SUV has been unveiled for European markets, with its first public appearance set for the 2024 Paris Motor Show. Globally, the Tayron will replace the Tiguan AllSpace, offering a more spacious interior and advanced technologies. This new VW SUV is 260mm longer and has a 111mm longer wheelbase than the new Tiguan, with an overall length of 4,770mm and a wheelbase of 2,791mm. The Tayron’s larger cabin accommodates an additional row of seats and provides an extra 198 liters of boot space.

Globally, the Tayron SUV will be available with four engine options: petrol, mild hybrid petrol, petrol plug-in hybrid, and diesel. Detailed specifications have yet to be revealed, but the carmaker has confirmed that the entry-level eTSI mild hybrid will produce 148bhp. The plug-in hybrid version will come with two different power outputs—201bhp and 268bhp. This setup includes a 19.7kWh battery and an electric motor, enabling it to run in EV-only mode for up to 100km.

The 2.0L turbo diesel engine will also come in two states of tune: 148bhp and 190bhp. While the former will have a front-wheel drive system, the latter will feature a 4WD setup. The SUV model lineup will offer both 6-speed and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearboxes, along with an all-wheel drive (AWD) system. The PHEV version will not offer a seven-seat configuration due to the placement of the battery under the boot floor. Unlike the regular 5-seater Tayron, which offers 885 liters of boot space, the PHEV version’s luggage space is reduced by 18 liters. Read: Volkswagen ID.4 India Launch Details

The interior layout of the Volkswagen Tayron resembles that of the Tiguan, including the dashboard design, trim inserts, and fabric colors. It features a 12.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.15-inch digital instrument panel, a 15.0-inch head-up display (HUD), a gear selector placed on the steering column, and digital dials. The entry-level variant comes equipped with several features, such as a three-zone automatic AC, digital instrument cluster, a 700W Harman-Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof, powered front seats with ventilation and massage functions, 10-color ambient lighting, and more.

In terms of safety, the new Volkswagen 7-seater SUV offers nine airbags, an ADAS suite, a rearview camera, and hands-free parking. Key design elements include projector headlamps with optional Matrix LED units, a front bumper with a large single vent, a familiar front grille, a blacked-out roof and D-pillar, a floating roof, and LED connected taillamps.

As of now, there is no official word on its arrival in India. However, media reports suggest that the Volkswagen Tayron 7-seater SUV will make its way to India via the CKD route in 2025. It will be positioned against rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.
