Upcoming Renault Cars in India

Renault India has a major product offensive plan to boost its business and brand identity in the coming years. The French automaker has already announced three new products, including two SUVs based on new platforms and a localized electric vehicle (EV) by 2027. While the company hasn’t yet revealed details of the upcoming products, the range is likely to include the new-generation Renault Duster, a 7-seater Bigster-based SUV (Duster 7-seater), and the Kwid EV. Besides these all-new products, Renault will introduce a generation change to the existing Kiger subcompact SUV and Triber compact MPV.

The new Renault Duster and its 7-seater version will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s modular CMF-B platform, which is heavily localized for India, aiming to achieve competitive pricing. If reports are to be believed, the lower trims of the new Duster might feature a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine. The Kiger and Magnite’s 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine could also make its way into the SUV, but tuned for generating more power. Speculation also suggests that the 1.3L HR13 turbo petrol engine, which powered the Nissan Kicks, could be reintroduced. Both manual (6-speed) and CVT automatic gearboxes will be offered.

The Renault Duster 7-seater (based on the Dacia Bigster) will be nearly 230mm longer than its 5-seater version. It will have a 43mm longer wheelbase, measuring 2.7 metres. Similar to the Bigster, the three-row Renault SUV might measure 4.57 metres in length, 1.81 metres in width, and 1.71 metres in height. Globally, the Bigster will be available with three different powertrain options – mild hybrid petrol, strong hybrid, and LPG.

The Renault Kwid EV, based on the Dacia Spring, will be an under Rs 10 lakh electric offering from the French automaker in India. In Europe, the small EV is offered with a 26.8kWh battery pack, promising a range of 295km (WLTP cycle). The new-gen Renault Triber is likely to arrive sometime in 2025 or 2026. Major changes are expected to be made inside and out; however, the engine setup might remain unchanged.
