Another Epic Disaster By Akshay Kumar

Despite high expectations, Sarfira recorded a poor opening at the box office.
Akshay Kumar returned to the big screen on Friday with the release of his new film ‘Sarfira’, a Hindi remake of the 2020 Tamil hit ‘Soorarai Pottru’. Despite high expectations, the film recorded a poor opening at the box office.
According to early estimates from Sacnilk.com, ‘Sarfira’ earned approximately Rs 2.40 crore net in India on its first day. Though the film saw gradual growth in occupancy throughout the day, the fate was sealed on the first day itself. Morning shows recorded an occupancy of around 7.03%. In comparison, evening shows improved with 13.72%, and night shows peaked at 20.24%.
Akshay Kumar is going through a lean patch as his recently released films, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, ‘Mission Raniganj’, ‘Selfiee’, and ‘Ram Setu’ have failed to make any impact at the box office. The actor was hoping to make a strong comeback with ‘Sarfira’. However, the first-day numbers are lowest among Akshay’s recently released films. ‘Sarfira’ ranks below his 2023 film ‘Selfiee’, which earned Rs 2.55 crore, and the 2021 film ‘Bellbottom’, which earned an estimated Rs 2.75 crore on their opening days.
Directed by Sudha Kongara, who also helmed the original, ‘Sarfira’ stars Radhika Madan, Paresh Rawal, and Seema Biswas, with a guest appearance by Suriya. The film narrates the inspiring story of Captain Gopinath, the founder of India’s first low-cost airline, and his transformative impact on Indian aviation. The original film, ‘Soorarai Pottru’, garnered critical acclaim and won five National Awards, including Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Film.
