The Citroen Basalt coupe SUV has finally made its official debut ahead of its market launch, which is likely to happen in the coming weeks. It’s the fourth offering from the French automaker under its C-Cubed program. In terms of pricing and positioning, the new Citroen coupe SUV will directly compete with the upcoming Tata Curvv and midsize SUVs including the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Here are the key details of the upcoming Basalt coupe SUV.

2 Petrol Engines

The new Citroen coupe SUV comes with two petrol engine options – a 1.2L naturally aspirated engine and a 1.2L turbocharged engine. While the former delivers a maximum power of 82 bhp and 115 Nm of torque, the latter is good for 110 bhp.

The naturally aspirated gasoline unit is available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The turbo-petrol motor, which can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, offers peak torque of 190 Nm and 205 Nm, respectively. The Basalt’s mileage figures stand at 18 kmpl for the NA version and 19.5 kmpl (MT) and 18.8 kmpl (AT) for the turbo petrol model.

Features On Offer

Several features are borrowed from the C3 Aircross, such as the dashboard, and gloss black and textured surfaces. What differentiates it from the C3 Aircross is the new HVAC panel with digital readouts, auto AC function, toggle switches, differently designed contoured rear headrests, and a larger front armrest with storage space. Interestingly, the Citroen Basalt is the first vehicle in its segment to come with a rear bench seat with adjustable thigh support.

The higher trims are exclusively offered with a floating 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster. The coupe SUV also comes with roof-mounted AC vents for the rear passengers, connected car tech, a 15W wireless smartphone charger, and a three-spoke steering wheel. The standard safety kit of the Basalt includes a tire pressure monitor, electronic stability program, six airbags, and hill hold assist.

Colour Options/Boot Space

Buyers will get five monotone colors: Garnet Red, Polar White, Cosmo Blue, Platinum Grey, and Steel Grey, along with dual-tone shades: Polar White with Black roof and Garnet Red with Black roof. Citroen claims that its new coupe SUV offers a boot space of up to 470-litres.

Design Elements

The design of the all-new Citroen Basalt shares a resemblance with the C3 Aircross, especially the front fascia. Some of its key highlights include the front grille with slightly different inserts, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, a faux silver skid plate, pronounced wheel arches with squared-off cladding, a flowing roofline, 17-inch alloys, pull-type door handles, contoured tailgate, halogen taillamps, and a dual-tone rear bumper.
