Finally A Safe Citroen – 4 Stars For Basalt In BNCAP Crash Tests

Citroen Basalt, the newly-launched coupe SUV from the French automaker, was recently subjected to the BNCAP (Bharat New Car Assessment Program) crash tests. It’s the first Citroen to undergo the safety test by BNCAP in the country. The model scored a four-star safety rating with 26.19 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 35.90 points out of 49 for child occupant protection. The variants that were subjected to the safety crash test were You and Plus with the naturally aspirated petrol engine and Plus and Max with the turbo petrol motor.

The standard safety kit of the Basalt includes six airbags, hill hold control, an electronic stability program, three-point seat belts and seat belt reminders for all seats, and Isofix child seat anchors. The carmaker says that the coupe SUV has been made of high-strength steel, advanced high-strength steel, and ultra-high-strength steel that help it manage front and side impacts while minimizing cabin intrusion.

Commenting on the Basalt’s BNCAP rating, Shishir Mishra, Brand Director Citroën India, said, “We take immense pride in Citroën Basalt’s 4-Star rating from Bharat NCAP. This achievement is a testament to our unwavering commitment to ensuring safety is at the forefront of our design philosophy. The Basalt’s impressive safety credentials empower our customers to drive confidently and securely. As the safety discussion evolves among Indian car buyers, we are proud to drive ahead, ensuring that the safety of our customers remains our top priority. We are optimistic that this recognition will reinforce the Basalt’s appeal and establish it as a preferred choice in the market.”

The engine setup of the Citroen Basalt includes two petrol engines – a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and a 1.2-litre turbo. While the former pushes out a peak power of 82hp and 115Nm of torque, the latter is good for 110hp and 190Nm (with a 6-speed manual gearbox) and 205Nm (with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission). The naturally aspirated petrol unit comes only with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Citroen Basalt is one of the most affordable coupe SUVs, priced between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 13.83 lakh. The manual variants are available within the price range of Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 12.49 lakh, and the prices of the automatic variants fall within the range of Rs 12.79 lakh to Rs 13.83 lakh. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom.
