Interview: Gnanavel Raja (‘Thangalaan’, ‘Kanguva’, and aiming for Tamil cinema’s first pan-Indian blockbuster)

I was very depressed listening to this
So he allowed the Thangaalan budget go above by almost 50 percent because if he hadn’t Vikram would think he is sabotaging the film as he is from the Surya camp- seriously!. Is this how business is done? A film breaking even itself is a big achievement these days and if it makes a 25 to 50 percent profit that’s almost a miracle. Now this idiot has already lost 50 percent just through investment, even if the film is a superhit he would hardly make a profit, not to mention the fact that he might lose his shirt if it flops badly now. Honestly, which was the last Pa Ranjith or Vikram blockbuster?. No wonder the film industry is in such deep shit.
Kanguva itself carries a budget that no Surya film has ever recovered before. The Pan-indian film syndrome is really ruining the industry. One Bahubali, one KGF2 is more of an exception. They are not counting countless others that flopped badly. The same goes for these multi part movies. Now after Kalki AD the disease is only going to spread. I hope that this poor guy will be still producing films after the release of these 23 films and do not disappear like A.M. Rathnam and co.
