Interview: KS Ravikumar (‘Hit List’, Kamal, Rajini…)

It was a good conversation. There is a sadness about KSR. It seems that he understands his best times are over and whatever he does today, the BO results will not match up to what he had already achieved. I have no hopes for Hitlist, what with Vikraman’s son making his debut
From his conversation, it appears that nobody had a good time on Dasavatharam, neither the viewers nor the makers :). I really wish the film told a story that was completely set in that historical period. It would have been much much better than enduring Kamal’s one-man fancy dress competition.
Both suresh krissna and KSR has a very similar career trajectory. both became famous by making hits with Kamal and Rajni. Satya, annamalai and Baasha for SK and Muthu, avvai shanmughi and padayappa for KSR. The double disaster of Aalavandhan and Baba finished off SK’s career, Manmadhananbu and Linga debacles finished off KSR. The film industry is very hard on ‘superstar’ directors, just one or two failure and then they are finished. The superstars will move on to younger directors and continue to give big hits, as is the case of the latest Kamal and Rajni films.
KSR’s salary for Muthu in 1995 was 15 lakhs, Shankar’s salary on Ai in 2015 was 15 crores 🙂
