Aiming to boost its sales, Jeep India will soon update its two major SUV offerings—Compass and Meridian. Speaking to an online media publication, Shailesh Hazra, MD and CEO of Stellantis India, revealed that the updated Jeep Compass will go on sale next month (i.e., September), and the Meridian facelift will hit showrooms in October 2024.
The new 2024 Jeep Meridian is expected to come with subtle design changes and feature upgrades. Previous spy images suggest that the three-row SUV will receive a slightly revised front grille, bumper, and fog lamp assembly with new silver accents around it. With the mid-life update, the Meridian will get a new ADAS radar module, which was seen in spy images placed within the central air intake. Most of its features will remain intact, as will the engine setup.
The updated Meridian will continue to use the same 2.0L diesel engine, delivering 170bhp and 350Nm of torque. Both manual (6-speed) and automatic (9-speed torque converter) gearboxes will be on offer.
Minimal changes are expected for the new 2024 Jeep Compass as well. Reports suggest that the carmaker might offer a new 1.3L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine in the SUV’s updated model lineup. This same gasoline unit could also be offered with the Meridian facelift.
The American SUV maker is also considering a new SUV for the Indian market to challenge midsize SUVs, including the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, and the newly launched Tata Curvv. The new Jeep SUV will fall under the Rs 20 lakh segment. It will be based on Citroën’s CMP platform and might come with AWD and 4X4 setup options. Rumor has it that Jeep could bring in the Renegade SUV, which features a full LED lighting system, a 10.25-inch digital TFT cluster, a 6-speaker sound system, a 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, 4-way manually adjustable passenger seats, lane departure warning, and many more features.
