Mahindra Thar Roxx (5-door Thar) has finally gone on sale in India. Prices of the lifestyle off-road SUV’s entry-level MX1 petrol and diesel variants are Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 13.99 lakh, respectively. The carmaker hasn’t yet revealed the trims and their prices. The 3-door Thar, which comes in 13 variants (including Earth Edition), costs between Rs 11.35 lakh – Rs 17.60 lakh. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom.
Interior of the SUV has dual-tone (Black and White) theme with dual HD screens setup – a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. It also gets a Harman Kardon sound system, wireless phone charger, rear AC vents, USB-C port, automatic AC, push-button start, perforated leatherette seats, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, front and rear center armrests and many more goodies. On safety front, the Thar Roxx further offers six airbags, braking locking differential, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control and hill hold and descent control.
The Thar Roxx borrows the electronic locking differential and, electronic brake locking differential from the Scorpio N. Attributes such as Intelli Turn assist, crawl smart assist and multiple terrain modes add more to its off-road capabilities. Compared to the 3-door Thar, the new Mahindra Thar Roxx has better approach, departure, and ramp-over angles that stand at 41.3 degrees, 36.1 degrees, and 23.6 degrees, respectively. The SUV offers a water wading depth of 650mm. The SUV underpins the updated 3G platform along with the independent front suspension with double wishbones, and a multilink rear setup with Watts linkage and frequency-dependent damping technology.
The new Mahindra Thar Roxx comes with three powertrain options – the entry-level 160bhp, 2.0L turbo petrol, 175bhp, 1.2L turbo petrol, and 172bhp, 2.2L diesel. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The lower variants of the SUV comes with the RWD and the higher variants gets 4WD configuration.
