Launched in April 2023, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx has proven to be an instant hit for the Indo-Japanese automaker. The compact SUV comes in Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha trims, currently priced between Rs 7.51 lakh and Rs 13.03 lakh (ex-showroom). While the model has already been performing well in terms of sales, the company plans to give it a mid-life update next year. The carmaker has confirmed that its own strong hybrid technology (HEV) will debut with the 2025 Maruti Fronx facelift.
With the new strong hybrid setup, the Fronx will become more fuel-efficient. Interestingly, the new hybrid powertrain will consist of the 1.2L, 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine (sourced from the Swift hatchback), a battery pack ranging between 1.5 kWh and 2 kWh, and an electric motor. It will be a series hybrid system that will ensure optimized efficiency on both urban roads and highways. The simple powertrain design will make it more affordable and reliable, while also reducing maintenance costs. These attributes will make Maruti Suzuki’s new strong hybrid system quite suitable for mass-market, small offerings.
Recently, a semi-camouflaged Maruti Fronx was spotted featuring an ADAS sensor on the front grille. The test mule sighting has fuelled rumours that the carmaker might be considering offering the compact SUV with the ADAS suite in the mid-life update next year. For those not in the know, the Made-in-India Fronx, which is exported to Japan, comes equipped with ADAS technology.
With the mid-life update, the Fronx is likely to receive a few design changes and feature upgrades. Currently, the compact SUV is available with 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0L Boosterjet turbo petrol engines, delivering 90 bhp and 100 bhp, respectively. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed torque converter automatic, and a 5-speed AMT.
