MG Comet now starts at INR 4.99 Lakh – Explained

JSW MG Motor India has expanded its innovative ‘Battery-as-a-Service’ (BaaS) program to include the MG Comet EV and MG ZS EV models. Designed to make electric vehicles (EVs) more accessible and affordable, the BaaS program enables customers to lower their initial vehicle acquisition costs by offering battery rental instead of upfront payment for the entire vehicle.

How the BaaS Program Works?

Under the BaaS model, customers can own the MG Comet EV starting at ₹4.99 lakh, with a battery rental fee of ₹2.5 per kilometre. The MG ZS EV is now available at ₹13.99 lakh, with a rental fee of ₹4.5 per kilometre for battery usage. This system allows buyers to pay only for the distance they drive, reducing the overall upfront cost and making EV ownership more manageable.

This program also provides an added incentive with a guaranteed 60% buyback value after three years of ownership, giving customers further confidence in their investment. The BaaS initiative initially launched with the MG Windsor has seen positive customer feedback, encouraging MG Motor India to extend this offering to its other EV models.

Customer-Friendly Ownership Model

Satinder Singh Bajwa, Chief Commercial Officer of JSW MG Motor India, commented on the program’s success: “With BaaS, we’ve created a flexible and cost-effective way for customers to experience electric mobility. The strong reception to the Windsor under BaaS has inspired us to extend these benefits to the Comet and ZS EV. This model makes EVs more accessible and will help drive adoption across the country.”

The BaaS program is backed by several key financial partners, including Bajaj Finserv, Hero Fincorp, Vidyut, and Ecofy Autovert, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free customer experience. These partnerships help provide financing options that further ease the transition to electric vehicles.

MG Comet EV and ZS EV

The MG Comet EV is ideal for city driving, offering a compact design that makes navigating tight spaces easy, while delivering a certified range of 230 km on a single charge.

On the other hand, the MG ZS EV is India’s first pure electric internet SUV, boasting a 50.3 kWh battery and a certified range of 461 km on a single charge, making it suitable for long-distance travel.

A Growing Commitment to Electric Mobility

With the introduction of the BaaS program, JSW MG Motor India aims to lower barriers to entry for environmentally conscious drivers and provide a flexible, cost-effective way to own an electric vehicle. The extension of the BaaS program to the Comet EV and ZS EV is a strategic step that could attract buyers in every segment.
