National Sports’ Day celebrated at AMU with great fervour – India Education | Latest Education News | Global Educational News

Aligarh : The national sports’ day was celebrated at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) with great fervour and enthusiasm, rejoicing the spirit of sportsmanship and the contributions of Major Dhyan Chand, the Indian field Hockey player who left an undisputed legacy behind.
An open district tournament was organised at Women’s College and Abdullah Hall that had 24 competitors for table tennis and 135 players in Badminton and 16 teams for cricket from various schools and colleges of Aligarh.
The event featured Prof. Brij Bhushan Singh, Department of Physical Education, AMU, as chief guest and Dr. Jameel Ahmad, President Gymkhana Club, Games Committee, as guest of honour, along with Prof. Masood Anwar Alvi, Principal, Women’s College, AMU and Dr. Ghazala Naheed, Provost, Abdullah Hall.
Prof Alvi highlighted the significance of national sports day and encouraged the students to take part in extracurricular activities and sports.
The organising secretary Dr. Nazia Khan, Incharge Physical Education Section, Women’s College, and Ms. Mehwish Khan, Games supervisor, Abdullah Hall coordinated the event, which was conducted under the observation of officials Pulkit Panday, Himanshu Gupta (Table Tennis) and Ayush Chaudhary, Prince Jadaun, Vishnu Kumar, Afreen Naeem and Malika Saba (Badminton), Mr. Danish sherwani and Mr Bilal Xavi (Cricket).
Anshara Maqdoom and Wafiya conducted the proceedings, while Dr. Nazia Khan and Mehwash Khan proposed a vote of thanks.
The play grounds at S.T.S. School were abuzz with excitement as students from the secondary section exhibited their skills in hockey matches. In an exhilarating final the Team Red triumphed over Team Green.
The sports teachers Mr. M. Adnan Khan, Mr. Mohammad Asim, and Dr. Zeeshan Haider coordinated the sports activities.
The Principal Mr. Faisal Nafis highlighted the enduring value of sports in education. He paid homage to Major Dhyan Chand, recalling his unmatched contributions to Indian sports and how his legacy continues to inspire generations.
At Abdullah School, various sports events including Frog Race, Book Balance Race, Three Leg Race and Badminton matches were organized. The students also participated in speech activity and stressed the importance of sports.
Addressing the students, Mrs. Umra Zaheer, School Superintendent said that games have become a way of life for healthy and fit India.
In the Frog Race, Mohd. Ashan and Afifa from class I and Abdul Ahad and Subuhi from class II got first position. In the Book Balance Race, Owais and Hifza of class III got the first position. In Three Leg Race, Altamsh and Alim (boys category) and Maliha and Zikra (girls category) of class IV got first position. In Three Leg Race Zayan Haider and Abdullah (boys category) and Wajiha and Sara of class V got first position. Students of class IV and V played Badminton and Football matches.
The ABK High School (girls) organised a hockey match between the Green House and Red House which Green House won by 3-1.
Dr. Saba Hasan, Vice Principal remarked that the students of ABK High School (girls) have brought laurels to the school and the credit for this goes to the House in-charges and sports teachers of the school.
The Sports Incharge Mr. Md Imran Khan had prepared the teams for Hockey and Kho-Kho Matches in the Senior Section, while Mr. Shamshad Nisar had prepared teams for Kho-kho.
Coordinator Dr. Farhat Parveen and Pro-Proctor Ms. Fakhra Yaseen looked after the necessary arrangements. In the Primary Section, a 60 meter race was held.
The Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged celebrated the national sports day with excitement, where the students participated in various games and activities, including ball passing, sack race, musical chair, lemon race, and tug of war for both boys and girls, as well as indoor games like Ludo and chess. The highlight of the day was the thrilling tug of war between teaching and non-teaching staff, which the teaching staff won.
Mr. Sardar Hussain, Volleyball Coach of Games Committee graced the occasion as chief guest.
Principal Dr. Naila Rashid exhorted the students to embrace physical fitness and participate in sports events. Mrs. Sana Raza, Sports Incharge, curated the event. The programme was conducted by Ms. Eram Fatima, with musical support provided by Mr. Sirajuddin Sheikh, music teacher.
