UPSC NDA & CDS SSB Interview Test
Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test
The test has two booklets. 40-50 questions each, giving 17-22 minutes. Both verbal and non-verbal reasoning questions are asked. which are typically easy to solve.
Picture Perception and Description Test (PP&DT;)
Candidates were shown 12 pictures, one at a time. Give 30 seconds to view each picture. Have to write a story on each picture in 4 minutes.
Group Discussion (GD)
Test duration: 15 minutes60 words will be shown to candidates, each for 15 secondsCandidates has to form meaningful sentences using the given word in the allotted time.
Group Planning Exercise (GPE)
GPE task involves a group of 6-12 candidates. A situation is narrated in which the group is heading to or returning from a location. The group is informed of various problems that have either occurred or will happen in the future. There will be 3 to 5 problems of different magnitudes. Resources will be given either directly in the problem or by common sense.
Progressive Group Task (PGT)
This is a group task that assesses various skills like teamwork, determination, leadership, and communication skills. The task has a time limit of 40-45 minutes. The group will have to cover a distance between a start line and a finish line with some structures in between. The group will be given some items such as a cylindrical wooden log (Balli), plank, and rope to cover the distance. Additionally, the group has to carry a drum as a load from the start point to the finish point. Every member of the group and the load must reach the finish line while following the rules set by the GTO.
Half Group Task (HGT)
This task is similar to PGT.PGT groups are divided into two subgroups. Each subgroup has to complete the tasks of the PGT within 10 to 15 minutes.
Snake Race
Candidates are divided into four groups consisting of 8 to 10 candidates. The group is given a task to carry a snake (tent rolled in the form of a snake) through six different obstacles.
Lecturette
Candidates are arranged in a circular seating arrangement and assigned a number. Each candidate is given a card with 4 topics, and they must choose one topic. A preparation time of 3 minutes is given for each candidate to prepare for their chosen topic. The candidate is then called by the GTO to submit the card and deliver a 3-minute lecture on the topic in front of the group. While the first candidate is giving their lecture, the second candidate picks a card and starts preparing. The process repeats until every candidate has given a lecture.
Interview
In the Personal Interview, the Interviewing Officer (IO) asks candidates various questions to assess their personality. The interview typically lasts from 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Conference
The conference is the final stage of the SSB Interview. During the conference, all assessors review the performance of each candidate. The assessors decide whether to recommend the candidate or not based on their overall performance. The final result of the SSB Interview is decided during the conference.
