Old Maruti Swift Vs New Swift In A Drag Race [Video]

Maruti Suzuki launched the 2024 version of the Swift on 9 May. Although many people appreciated the upgrade, some people did not like the shift from a four cylinder engine to a three cylinder engine. Today, we will cover the drag race of both the cars with the help of a YouTube video uploaded by MRD Cars.

Before starting with the details of the drag race, let’s talk about the engine and power figures of both the cars. The old generation Swift was powered by a 1.2-litre four cylinder petrol engine. This engine delivers 89 PS of power and 115 Nm of torque.
On the other hand, the 2024 Swift is powered by an all-new 1.2-litre three cylinder petrol engine. This engine produces 80 PS of power and 111 Nm of torque. Both the cars are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. However, the older Swift is loaded with 16-inch aftermarket alloy wheels.
The weight of both the cars is similar with the older Swift weighing around 925 kg and the 2024 Swift weighing around 920 kg. Now, let’s talk about the race. In the first race, the host drives the 2024 Swift and he is the one starting the race.

The conditions of the race were not specified in the video. Initially, the 2024 Swift takes the lead. The host mentions that this is due to the aftermarket alloy wheels in the older Swift. The completion stays neck to neck when both the cars are in third gear but when fourth gear is engaged; the third-generation Swift easily takes the lead and wins the race.
Now, let’s talk about the second round. Similar to the first round, the host starts the race but this time the old Swift fails to start and the round is paused. The race is started once again but the old Swift fails to keep up due to its alloy wheels and stops mid-way.
The round is repeated and instead of the host, the driver of old Swift starts the race. This time the third-generation Swift takes the lead from the start and maintains its position. Similar to the first race, both cars are neck to neck in the third gear with the 2024 Swift taking the lead for some seconds.
The cars are not shifted into fourth gear this time and the 2024 Swift wins the round two. Commenting on the braking of the car, the host states that it becomes unstable in high speed braking.
Similar results are seen in the third round as well where the third generation Swift takes the lead initially but when the third gear is engaged, the 2024 Swift takes the position. The host mentions that in the first two gears the older Swift performs better but in the third gear, the 2024 Swift easily wins. The older Swift stays in the lead till the speeds of 80 km/h but after that it fails to maintain its position. The winner of the third round was the 2024 Swift.
All in all, the all-new 2024 Maruti Swift is nearly as quick as the older model if not quicker.
