Skoda Kylaq, the first-ever compact SUV from the Czech automaker, is set to debut on 6th November 2024 at an event in Mumbai. The model is reported to enter production next month and will hit showrooms in its final form by March 2025. The company aims to produce around 4,000–5,000 units of the Kylaq monthly at its Chakan-based manufacturing facility. The plant will serve as a production hub for both domestic and export markets. Initial teasers and official sketches confirm that the new Skoda compact SUV will adopt the brand’s new ‘Modern Solid’ design language. Built on the MQB A0 IN platform, the Kylaq will feature a wide front grille with vertical slats, split headlamps, and a kinked glasshouse. Compared to the Kushaq, it will have a shorter wheelbase and smaller front and rear overhangs.
No details about its interior are available at this point. However, the upcoming Skoda Kylaq is likely to share a strong resemblance with the Kushaq. The higher trims may exclusively offer an ADAS suite, a 360-degree camera, ventilated leatherette seats, and wireless smartphone charging. Features such as a touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, a height-adjustable driver seat, multiple airbags, ABS with ESC and EBD, Isofix anchors, rear parking sensors, an auto start-stop function, traction control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system may also be included.
Under the hood, the Skoda Kylaq will be powered by a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, available with 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic gearbox options. The motor delivers a claimed output of 115 bhp and 178 Nm of torque.
Upon its launch, the new Skoda compact SUV will compete with the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300. With a highly localized architecture and shared components with the Kushaq, the Kylaq is expected to be priced quite competitively.
