The Hilux Rangga SUV Concept demonstrates that this Hilux Rangga/Champ pickup can easily serve as a personal vehicle with an SUV body style
Toyota has revealed the Hilux Rangga SUV concept coinciding with the launch of the Hilux Rangga pickup truck, another name for the Thailand market’s Hilux Champ, in Indonesia. The latter essentially is the more compact version of the Hilux based on the more cost-effective iteration of the IMV O platform. The same architecture has long been expected to spawn a more affordable Fortuner.
The Hilux Rangga SUV Concept demonstrates that this Hilux Rangga/Champ pickup can easily serve as a personal vehicle for family use. It brings to mind the earlier generations of the Kijang as the pickup body could be transformed into a passenger car or MPV for personal and work transport. It uses the familiar 2.4L four-cylinder 2GD-FTV diesel engine.
The powertrain is linked with a six-speed automatic transmission. The concept features LED projector headlights paired with LED DRLs and rides on custom-made 16-inch alloy rims. To enhance its passenger-focused design, the rear body has been reimagined with a taller roof compared to the standard version along with more refined body lines.

Despite being based on a pickup, this SUV comes with features comparable to a regular SUV. It includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone automatic climate control, all four power windows, a reverse parking camera and sensors, dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes, and so on.
At the Japan Mobility Show 2023, Toyota grabbed attention with its IMV 0 concept, which focuses on versatility, affordability and customisation. Built on a flexible and modular platform, the IMV O allows Toyota to experiment with a range of body styles and configurations. This platform is expected to pave the way for a more affordable version of the Fortuner, aimed primarily at developing markets.

It will aim to retain the Fortuner’s off-road capabilities while sitting in a more accessible price bracket. To likely be dubbed the Land Cruiser FJ, it will measure around 4.5 meters in length and could share the wheelbase with its larger sibling. The SUV will come equipped with the familiar GD series diesel engine along with a petrol option which could be a new mill debuting in the next-gen Fortuner.
