Triumph Speed T4 vs Speed 400 Spec Comparison: What’s Different
Triumph has recently added a new and affordable 400cc bike to its lineup, the Speed T4. It has also introduced the updated Speed 400 with fresh colour options and features. The two bikes look almost the same except for a few minor distinctions. While the Speed T4 is priced at Rs 2.17 lakh, the new Speed 400 starts at Rs 2.40 lakh (ex-showroom). Triumph Speed T4 vs Speed 400: Appearance The Speed T4 and Speed 400 are nearly identical in appearance, but the former is distinguished by bright markings on its wheels and a ‘400’ emblem on its fuel tank. It has a standard telescopic fork instead of the Speed 400’s gold-finished inverted fork. However, other features, such as alloy wheels, a circular headlight, single-piece seats, taillights, and the fuel tank contour, are similar to the Speed 400. The T4 is available in three colours: metallic white, phantom black, and cocktail red wine. Depending on the paint scheme, the bottom of the tank is finished in either white or grey. Triumph Speed T4 vs Speed 400: Under the Hood Both bikes have the same 399cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that comes with a six-speed gearbox. However, the unit produces 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm on the Speed 400, and 30.6bhp at 7,000rpm, and 36Nm at 5,000rpm on the Speed T4. Triumph claims that the Speed T4’s 85 percent of its torque, or roughly 31Nm, begins to engage at 2,500 rpm, improving low-end torque, easing the motion in lower and mid-speed ranges, and eliminating the need for frequent gear changes. Triumph Speed T4 vs Speed 400: Hardware While the Speed 400 has a 43mm USD big-piston fork, the Speed T4 has a telescopic fork. Nonetheless, the rear monoshock is the same on both motorcycles. The bikes also have an identical brake setup that consists of a 230mm disc with a floating caliper at the back and a 300mm disc with a 4-piston radial caliper at the front, with ABS. The Speed T4 has economical MRF Nylogrip Zapper tyres, while the Speed 400 is fitted with a bit expensive MRF Steel Brace or Apollo Alpha H1 radial tyres. However, they both have identical tyre sizes, 110/70-R17 in front and 140/70-R17 in back. Triumph Speed T4 vs Speed 400: Dimensions Though the two Triumph bikes seem to be similar in size, there are a few minor differences such as the Speed T4’s handlebar (827) is a bit shorter than the Speed 400’s (829). The Speed T4 stands 2mm taller (1098mm) than the Speed 400 (1096mm). It features a 50mm longer wheelbase compared to its sibling. However, the Speed 400 (179 Kg) weighs 1 kg less than the Speed T4. However, the Speed 400 also includes a switchable traction control system, but the Speed T4 does not.
