NEET PG Counselling 2024: A Guide for Aspirants

NEET PG Counselling 2024: One of the toughest exams in India for applicants to postgraduate medical programmes is the NEET PG (National Eligibility and Entrance Test for Postgraduate Courses). Candidates often experience a great deal of stress due to the pressure and expectations. Effective therapy is essential to guide them and assist them in overcoming their academic and emotional obstacles.

What factors will influence the choice of specialty-tuition fees, bond or security?

NEET PG counselling 2024 is yet to begin. While choosing a branch, NEET PG candidates look at the college’s fee structure, bond status, clinical load, security and location to study before finalising it. Dr Amar said security is an important consideration for both male and female students when choosing a branch.

In last year’s NEET PG results, of the top 100 rank holders, 41 chose General medicine and 28 chose Radiodiagnosis, according to the first allotment list. In contrast, only two candidates chose Surgery, a field traditionally popular among MBBS graduates.

Experts attributed this decline to the demanding nature of surgery and rising incidents of violence against doctors. According to Dr. Sandeep, surgery faculty at edtech firm, the trend of choosing a specialty is currently driven by work-life balance and a sense of achievement.

“Radiology remains the top choice for its AC rooms and well-planned days, followed by dermatology for the same reasons with fixed working hours. General medicine is still the favourite for a variety of patients and potential career paths.

Surgical specialties have seen a decline due to long working hours. Lesser-known specialties like Nuclear medicine are being preferred among young doctors,” he explained. Dinesh Singh, founder of Career Mantra, an edtech company that provides career counselling services, said that in the NEET PG, one branches are particularly sought after because of their career prospects, scope and demand in the medical field.

Here is an overview of some of the most chosen branches and their scope:
