Just-Launched Mahindra Thar ROXX: 20 Features It Offers Over The 3 Door Model

Mahindra has just launched the Thar ROXX, which is a massive upgrade over the 3 door model in literally every sense of the word. We’ll give you a quick walkthrough of the 20 unique features that the Thar ROXX offers over the 3-door model.

Let’s start with the obvious.
2 extra doors and a big bench seat

 
The Thar ROXX gets a practical 5 door layout that means that it’s now a viable option for families. It’s not just the 5 door layout but also the rear bench seat that makes the Thar ROXX a lot more practical than the 3 door version for everyday use.
Level 2 ADAS
Safety gets a big boost on the 5-door Thar ROXX thanks to the addition of Level 2 ADAS. The ADAS suite on the 5 door Thar ROXX is quite comprehensive in that it offers forward collision warning (FCW), auto emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), smart pilot assist (SPA), lane departure warning (LDW), lane keep assist (LKA), and high beam assist (HBA). All these features make the new SUV from Mahindra a lot more safer than the 3 door model whose safety features now look quite basic in comparison.
Full metal hard top

While the 3 door Thar is available with convertible soft top and fiber hard top options, Mahindra has gone the whole hog and equipped the Thar ROXX with a full metal hard top. This makes the new SUV get 1. Better weather sealing and 2. An additional layer of safety as the metal top is sturdier than the fiber hard top on the 3 door model.
Panoramic sunroof

Offering a metal hard top on the Thar ROXX has meant that Mahindra designers have now been able to integrate a large, panoramic sunroof into the Thar ROXX, and this greatly adds to the vehicle’s appeal given how popular sunroofs are with car buyers in India. Also, Mahindra offers a single pane sunroof on the lower trims of the Thar Roxx, again made possible due to the hard top.
Power Adjustable Driver’s Seat

The Thar ROXX gets a 6 way power adjustable driver’s seat, and this brings the SUV up to par with other compact SUVs sold in a similar price bracket such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. More than the off roading crowd, Mahindra seems to be targeting family SUV buyers with the Thar ROXX.
Ventilated front seats
The luxury quotient goes up by a few notches thanks to ventilated seats for both the driver and front passenger. Again, this feature isn’t available on the 3 door Thar but is available on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Clearly, Mahindra wants the Thar ROXX to capture mid size SUV buyers.
360 degree camera

Considering that the Thar ROXX is significantly larger than the 3 door model, the addition of the 360 degree camera is a good one, considering both safety and convenience. Additionally, the camera has a unique ‘under bonnet view’ that’s meant to give the driver a view under the front wheels of the car.
Automatic headlamps and wipers
Again, these features are now quite common on mid-sized SUVs sold in India such as the Maruti Grand Vitara and Hyundai Creta. Mahindra has added both these features to the five door Thar ROXX to bring it up to speed with mid-sized SUVs.
Lot more power and torque
As the Thar ROXX has grown in size, weight and passenger carrying capacity, extra power and torque is just what’s needed. Mahindra has recognized this and given the Thar ROXX a 160 Bhp-330 Nm base tune for the 2 liter turbo petrol engine, and a 150 Bhp-330 Nm base tune for the 2.2 liter turbo diesel. More powerful versions of the Thar ROXX Diesel offer 175 Bhp-380 Nm while the petrol makes 175 Bhp-370 Nm.
65W Laptop Charging Port and Wireless Mobile Charging Pad

A 65W USB Type-C charging port that can power a laptop sits on the Thar ROXX’s center console, alongside the wireless charging pad. Both features are missing on the 3 door model.
Automatic Climate Control

Automatic Climate control is a feature that many owners of the 3 Door Thar used to miss. The Thar Roxx owners will be quite pleased that this feature is available on their SUVs.
Remote release for fuel filler cap

In the 3 door Thar, one had to hand out the keys of the vehicle or go around to the rear of the vehicle and physically unlock the fuel filler cap every time during refueling. This will no longer be an issue on the 5 door model as Mahindra has finally fitted a remote release for the fuel filler cap.
Height Adjustable Front Seatbelts

In the Thar ROXX, Mahindra now offers height adjustable front seatbelts for the driver and front passenger. This is a small but significant feature addition that enhances the drive experience significantly.
9 Speaker Harman Kardon sound system

8 speakers and a 560 watt sub-woofer are now offered on the top-end Mahindra Thar ROXX, and this is meant to offer rich sound and a great auditory experience inside the SUV.
Soft Touch Dashboard And Interiors

Every panel on the 3 Door Thar felt hard and industrial to touch. Mahindra has made comfort the priority in the 5 door Thar ROXX, and to this end offers soft touch dashboard and other door inner panel surfaces.
Electronic Differential Lock
This is a feature specific to the four wheel drive variants of the Thar ROXX, and basically help transmit torque to all four wheels equally at the flick of a switch for better off road performance.
Auto dimming inner rear view mirror
A boon while driving at night, the auto dimming inner rear view mirror cuts glare from the headlamps of vehicles coming from behind. This reduces driver fatigue greatly and contributes to a safer night drive experience.
Smart Crawl Mode
When activated, this mode allows the Thar ROXX to clamber up steep obstacles at a steady speed with the driver not having to control the throttle or the brake. Just point the wheel in the right direction and the Thar ROXX will do the rest.
Intelliturn Mode
Again a feature available only on the 4X4 variants, Intelliturn locks the inner rear wheel during sharp low speed turns (typically a U-turn) to reduce turning radius of the Thar ROXX.
Electric Parking Brake And Drive Modes

An electric parking brake comes standard on the Thar ROXX. Also, there are two major modes here: Zip And Zoom, which control throttle responsiveness.
