Mahindra Thar Roxx – All Variants Explained

Mahindra has launched the much-awaited Thar Roxx as we take a look at the variant-wise amenities on offer along with the prices.

In this post, we shall discuss all the variants on offer with the Mahindra Thar Roxx. The 5-door iteration of the regular Thar has been creating a huge buzz in our market in the last few days. Mahindra commenced launching teasers and trailers of the SUV about a week ago. The launch finally took place on August 15, a date Mahindra often uses to demonstrate its new products. This time around, the nomenclature has been borrowed from the XUV700 with the MX range signifying lower trims without AdrenoX connected car tech features and the AX range with ADAS and AdrenoX. Let us delve deep into the specifics of each trim.

Mahindra Thar Roxx – All Variants

Thar Roxx MX1

The range starts with MX1 which has a retail price of Rs 12.99 lakh for the petrol MT RWD and Rs 13.99 lakh, ex-showroom for diesel MT RWD. The Indian auto giant offers tons of useful amenities even in the base trim. These include LED projector headlamps, LED taillamps, 18-inch steel wheels, M-Glyde Platform, Penta Link rear suspension with Watt’s Link, Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD), electronic power steering, premium embossed fabric upholstery, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display, push-button start, rear AC vents with USB-C port, 6 airbags, 3-point seatbelt for all passengers, 60:40 split rear seat, brake locking differential, electronic stability control, 650 mm water wading capacity and more. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol mill churns out 162 PS of power and 330 Nm of torque and comes with a 6-speed automatic. The 2.2-litre diesel trim generates 152 PS and 330 Nm of peak power and torque with the manual transmission.

Thar Roxx MX3

Now, the MX3 comes with all the features of the MX1 and adds some more amenities to attract a large range of potential buyers. This includes things like dual-tone metal top, drive modes (Zip, Zoom), rear armrest with cupholder, selectable terrain modes (Snow, Sand, Mud), Gen ll adventure statistics, compass, roll & pitch, altimeter, reverse camera, all 4 disc brakes (petrol AT), Hill Hold Control (HHC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), traction control system (TCS), 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment unit, wireless Android Auto and wired Apple CarPlay, cruise control, auto-dimming IRVM, wireless charger, one-touch power window and more. The petrol range starts at Rs 14.99 lakh, while the diesel trims commence at Rs 15.99 lakh, ex-showroom. This is the first variant to get the automatic transmission.

Thar Roxx MX5

Moving up the ladder, we get the Thar Roxx MX5 trim. Again, it gets all the traits of the MX3 and then some. The most prominent highlights are single pane sunroof, 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, C-shaped LED DRLs, LED front fog lamp, acoustic windshield, leatherette seats, leather-wrapped steering, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic locking differential (4×4), front parking sensors, auto headlamp, auto wiper, footwell lighting, and much more. The MX5 range is available in petrol, diesel, manual and automatic versions. To get your hands on this trim, you need to shell out at least Rs 16.49 lakh, ex-showroom for the petrol manual, Rs 17.99 lakh for the petrol automatic, Rs 16.99 lakh for the diesel manual and Rs 18.49 lakh for the diesel automatic.

Thar Roxx AX3L

Interestingly, this is the variant from where things change significantly. Mahindra offers its AdrenoX connected car tech features and Level 2 ADAS active safety equipment. This range starts from Rs 16.99 lakh, ex-showroom for diesel manual. Note that the price of the petrol version in this range will be announced later. In addition to the existing features in the last trim, the AX3L gets 10 active safety features, built-in Alexa, fully automatic temperature control, DTS sound staging and more. This variant is currently available with a sole diesel manual configuration. Perhaps, Mahindra will offer other powertrain-transmission options with it at a later stage.

Thar Roxx AX5L

Next up, we have the AX5L model of the Mahindra Thar Roxx. It takes things a notch higher with functionalities and equipment like C-shaped LED DLRs, front parking sensors, electric parking brake with auto-hold function, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and the option of choosing between a RWD diesel engine with manual transmission or a 4×4 diesel automatic version. At the moment, the price of just the RWD diesel manual is announced. It retails for Rs 18.99 lakh, ex-showroom. We will get to know the prices of other trims at a later stage.

Thar Roxx AX7L

The top-of-the-line variant of the Mahindra Thar Roxx is AX7L. It comes with all the bells and whistles. There are all the amenities and features of the other models. On top of that, it offers all that Mahindra has to offer. This trim will come with petrol automatic RWD, diesel manual RWD, diesel RWD AT, diesel 4×4 MT and diesel 4×4 AT. The prices start at Rs 19.99 lakh for the petrol AT. The diesel RWD manual costs Rs 18.99 lakh, while the diesel RWD AT retails for Rs 20.49 lakh, ex-showroom. We will still need to wait for the prices of the 4×4 versions. I hope this post would’ve explained the details of all the variants vividly.
