Maruti Fronx ADAS Variants, Grand Vitara ADAS Variants Launch Info

While carmakers like Hyundai and Mahindra offer ADAS on many of their vehicles, Maruti Suzuki will join the fray with ADAS-equipped Grand Vitara and Fronx

Our sources inform us that Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) in two of its popular Nexa models – the Grand Vitara and the Fronx. The Grand Vitara, already a hot-seller with mild-hybrid, strong-hybrid and AWD versions, is set to get Level 2 ADAS features. This move aligns with the growing demand for safety features in the SUV segment. Even the Maruti Fronx, a distinctive crossover SUV born from the successful Baleno, is gearing up to get ADAS in the coming months. Both the vehicles will get ADAS that will be tailor-made for Indian driving conditions. Popular for its unique styling, high fuel efficiency and strong performance from the Boosterjet, the Fronx makes for a good alternative to the Tata Punch. The addition of ADAS is poised to make the Fronx even more attractive to safety-conscious buyers.

Maruti Fronx and Grand Vitara to Get India-Specific ADAS-Equipped Variants

Addressing concerns about the delay in launching the safety technology on its cars, Maruti Suzuki said, “The unique traffic conditions and congestion make it difficult to simply apply Japanese solutions. Leveraging Suzuki’s 40 years of experience in India, we plan to develop and offer ADAS that performs well even in the congested streets of Indian cities.” Well, the executive surely has a point, what with the chaotic traffic conditions prevalent almost throughout the country!

Both models, known for their versatility and distinct appeal, are set to join the growing league of vehicles that have advanced safety technologies. As a safety advocate, I appreciate the inclusion of features like Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Keep Assist, which contribute to a safer driving experience. These technologies, although dependent on proper road infrastructure, are crucial steps towards making our roads safer.

So far, the Grand Vitara has been among the top-sellers in the segment. In terms of sales, it rubs shoulders with the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. This, in spite of the lack of a diesel engine option. The SUV has been available with two 1.5-litre hybrid petrol options. The more affordable of these is a mild-hybrid 1.5-litre 4-cylinder motor that offers 103 hp and 136 Nm. It’s available with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic and AWD options. The costlier motor on offer is a strong-hybrid 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that works in tandem with an AC synchronous electric motor and a Lithium-ion battery pack. It generates 116 hp and 141 Nm. An e-CVT is the only transmission on offer.

Even the Maruti Fronx offers two engine options – a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol. The former outputs 90 PS and 113 Nm while the latter offers 100 PS and 147.6 Nm. The less powerful engine is available with 5-speed manual AMT options. There is also a CNG trim with 76 hp and 99 Nm of peak output. The turbo petrol variant is available with 5-speed manual and 6-speed auto transmission options. It’s said that the crossover might soon get a strong hybrid engine option with stellar fuel efficiency figures to boast.

The Grand Vitara, with its hybrid powertrain options and impressive mileage, and the Fronx, featuring peppy turbo petrol engine, are already good choices in their respective segments.
