British isles Asian Movie Festival – the world’s longest working South Asian film pageant – has unveiled its programme for its 25th anniversary version. Running at venues throughout London, Leicester and Glasgow from Thursday 4th – Sunday 14th May, British isles Asian Movie Competition is offered by Tongues on Fire.

The ‘Celebrating Our Stories’ theme of the festival’s silver jubilee calendar year will present a curation of movie tales centring on the British Asian expertise – redefining and reimagining one’s roots and dreams in a international land – and will celebrate the individuality and uniqueness of trans generational, South Asian migrant tales.

The Opening Gala will present the UK Premiere of Sanaa (India, 2022 Dir: Sudhanshu Saria Language: Hindi with English subtitles) on Thursday 4th May, BFI Southbank.  The biggest weekend of her expert life only gets extra difficult when Sanaa, a 28-year-aged monetary advisor working in Mumbai, finds out she is expecting. The Closing Film on Saturday 13th May, Kiln Theatre, London is the World Premiere of Bhagwan Bharose (India, 2023 Dir: Shiladitya Bora Language: Hindi with English subtitles).  The movie tells the tale of Bhola and Shambhu, two village boys whose thoughts about religion are continually questioned as their tiny entire world expands and takes into its fold their country’s fast-altering socio-political landscape. Against the backdrop of a soaring Hindu nationalist movement in late 1980’s India, the two impressionable young ones wrestle with their knowledge of God and religion. While encountering the day-to-day difficulties of childhood, a conservative upbringing and communal surroundings, their idyllic entire world is blown apart by activities that they them selves can no for a longer time fathom.
